Hearing Loss Association of Florida and State Chapter Coordinator Let’s Make Hearing Loss Visible Extravaganza SUCCESS!

The first statewide Let’s Make Hearing Loss Visible Extravaganza was designed to bring hearing and hearing loss alike together for support and growth of future hearing loss advocates. Why? Hearing loss individuals of all ages require support and guidance in their hearing loss journey, especially from their hearing individuals: Spouses, partners, parents, friends, co-workers and children. They are all an intricate part of the continued success of hearing loss individuals and HLAA as present and future advocates. Everything from understanding effective communication, hearing protection, to assisting a family member, friend or fellow employee in need of hearing loss assistance.

Success! In just under four months of planning, sponsors, speakers, volunteers and workshops came to life in a free for all event with Sign Language, CART and Loop at the Orlando Health Medical Center on April 22nd.

The day was comprised of an exhibit hall with a wealth of information and two workshop rooms overflowing with hearing and hearing loss alike, of all ages, who joined in: Early Steps, Musical Therapy, Power of Positive Thinking, the importance of Speech and Mental Therapy, Lipreading, Sign Language, Hearing Dogs, Effective Communication and Socializing, Hearing Loss and Cochlear Implant Panels comprised of young and old alike for interaction and open discussions and more. Existing and potential Chapter/Self Support Group leaders and volunteers participated in an afternoon chapter workshop with the Florida State Chapter Coordinator.

Thanks to the Extravaganza success, more individuals and organizations statewide are sharing interest in HLAA and/or offering support. Individuals like Karen Adams, Anchor/Producer from Jacksonville WJXT Channel 4 News, is now providing live promotions of HLAA Chapter events in Florida and Georgia and the 2017 HLAA National Convention!
