Latest News on Modernization of TASA Legislation

Hello, everyone!

I have very exciting news about the Modernization of Telecommunications Access Systems Act (TASA) of 1991 legislative bills.  Please share this announcement with your community members and friends.

I am happy to announce that the last of three Senate Committees, the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee passed SB 344 (TASA Modernization Bill) unanimously yesterday (April 2).  It was a quick vote, all done after its introduction at the start of the meeting, less than five minutes to vote pass with no debate or discussion.  This means this bill passed unanimously in all three Senate Committees.  The next stop is the full Senate floor for the final vote.

As for the House side, we are waiting for a similar bill (HB 435) to be introduced to the House Commerce Committee for vote.   It is to happen soon.  Once it passes in this committee, this bill will go to full House floor for the final vote.

It is important that both the full Senate and House vote in favor of these bills.

No, we all need to watch what happens in the next House committee.   We need you to continue to reach out to your local state legislators to support SB 344 and HB 435.

One more thing, FTRI will have its Open House on April 16th, the same day we have our Legislative Day at the Capitol.  We will have a bus/shuttle between the FTRI Office and the Capitol, thanks to FAD.  You are all welcome to come to Tallahassee and join us.  For more information about April 16 plans, please contact Lissette Molina Wood, Outreach RDC & Community Manager, FTRI, at lmolinawood@ftri.org.

Thank you.
