Accessibility Statement

The Hearing Loss Association of Florida wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who browse with screen readers, captions, keyboards, magnification or other assistive technology.

Standard: WCAG 2.2 Level AA · Last updated:

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Accessibility was self-assessed during development using automated checks and manual keyboard and screen reader review. We have not commissioned a third-party audit. If you find something that does not work for you, please tell us and we will fix it.

Measures in place

  • The site can be operated by keyboard alone. Every link and button shows a visible focus indicator, and a "Skip to content" link appears at the start of each page.
  • Each page has one main heading, and headings follow a logical order so you can navigate by structure.
  • Body text is at least 17 pixels and meets a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background. Large text and interface elements meet 3:1.
  • Text scales with your browser zoom and text-size settings without loss of content or function.
  • Images that convey information carry alternative text. Decorative images are marked so assistive technology skips them.
  • Every form field has a visible label. Required fields are marked, and errors are described in text, not by color alone.
  • Links describe where they go. External links open in a new tab and say so to assistive technology.
  • No content flashes, auto-plays or moves on a timer. Animation honors your device's "reduce motion" setting.
  • Interactive targets are large enough to use on a touch screen.
  • Videos we embed are chosen for captions, and our own Zoom meetings use live captions.
  • We do not use an accessibility overlay or widget. Fixing the site itself is the only approach that works with your own assistive technology.

Known limitations

Parts of this site are provided by third parties. We do not control their code and cannot fix problems inside them. Each one has another way to get the same result.

Donation forms (Zeffy)

Online donations are processed on forms hosted by Zeffy. If the form presents a barrier, you can mail a check payable to Hearing Loss Association of Florida, Inc. to the HLAA-FL Treasurer at the address on our contact page, or email us and we will help.

Video (YouTube)

Videos are embedded from YouTube and use YouTube's player. We choose videos that have captions. If a video you need is not captioned or the player is hard to use, contact us and we will point you to a transcript or an alternative.

Content from hearingloss.org

Some event listings and news items are pulled from the Hearing Loss Association of America's website and link to pages there. HLAA national maintains its own accessibility statement; we are not able to change that content.

Maps

Where a map is embedded from Google Maps, the full address and a plain-text link appear alongside it, so no information depends on the map.

PDF documents

Some documents, such as our bylaws and scholarship application, are PDFs supplied by the organization or third parties and may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will provide the content in another format.

Report a barrier

If any part of this site stops you from finding what you need, tell us the page and what happened. We will help you get the information right away and fix the problem.
