What HLAA national offers Floridians

Four things you can use from anywhere in Florida: virtual chapters that meet online every month, the Hear Together group for parents of children with hearing loss, the Veterans Across America virtual chapter, and free HearingU webinars on hearing technology, advocacy and living well. None of them require membership. HLAA-FL points you to them because they fill the gaps between our local chapters.

  • HLAA virtual chapters

Online chapters that meet on Zoom with live captions. They serve people who have no chapter nearby, cannot travel, or want a specific community such as veterans or young adults. Find them in the national chapter directory under virtual chapters.

  • Hear Together parents group

Monthly online support for parents and caregivers of children with hearing loss, 8 to 9 p.m. Eastern on the third Wednesday during the school year. Led by a speech-language pathologist and an audiologist. Free and captioned.

  • Veterans Across America virtual chapter

HLAA's online chapter for veterans with hearing loss and tinnitus. Meets on the third Tuesday of each month with captions. Veterans also receive complimentary HLAA membership through a national program.

  • HearingU webinars

Free captioned webinars from HLAA national on hearing aids, cochlear implants, captioning, Auracast, advocacy and more. Live sessions are recorded so you can watch later.

Membership connects it all

When you join HLAA national, you are automatically part of HLAA-FL and every Florida chapter. Membership is optional for attending meetings, but it funds the webinars, advocacy and chapter support you see here, and it includes Hearing Life magazine. Veterans join free.

Common questions

What is the difference between HLAA, HLAA-FL and a chapter?

HLAA is the national organization, based in Maryland, that runs webinars, advocacy, the convention and Walk4Hearing. HLAA-FL is the Florida state association, a separate Florida nonprofit that supports the chapters in this state and represents Floridians with hearing loss. Chapters are the local groups where people actually meet. One membership covers all three.

Can I join a virtual chapter in another state?

Yes. Virtual chapters are open to anyone with an internet connection. Some Floridians belong to a local chapter and a virtual chapter at the same time. If you are a snowbird, you can attend your Florida chapter in winter and a virtual chapter all year.

Are HLAA webinars free?

Yes. HearingU webinars are free to attend live and are recorded with captions for later viewing. Some member-only content exists, but the public webinars cover most topics people ask about: hearing aids, cochlear implants, captioning, Auracast, Medicare and advocacy.

Does HLAA national have a Florida directory?

Yes. The national Find a Chapter directory lists Florida chapters and groups by city, and the Florida state association keeps this site current with status and schedules. If the two ever disagree, contact HLAA-FL and we will sort it out with national.
