Donate to the Hearing Loss Association of Florida

Your gift helps Floridians with hearing loss find support, learn about technology and be heard by decision-makers. HLAA-FL is all-volunteer, so every dollar goes to the work.

Why give to HLAA-FL

About 3 million Floridians live with hearing loss, and many of them spend years feeling alone before they find a group like ours. The Hearing Loss Association of Florida is the statewide, volunteer-run nonprofit that connects Florida's HLAA chapters, teaches people about hearing aids, cochlear implants, captions and hearing loops, and speaks up for communication access with Florida agencies and lawmakers.

We have no paid staff. A donation of any size funds outreach, advocacy and education directly, and it is tax deductible. Gifts are used in Florida.

What your donation funds

  • Outreach

Tables at health fairs, senior centers, libraries, veteran events and houses of worship, with printed materials that reach people who have not yet found help.

  • Advocacy

Travel and materials for volunteers who represent people with hearing loss before Florida agencies, the Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and legislators.

  • Education

Captioned webinars and Zoom meetings, hearing loop demonstrations and plain-language guides on hearing technology and financial help.

  • Chapter support

Help for existing chapters and for new groups starting in parts of Florida with no chapter yet.

  • Accessibility

Captioning, CART and interpreters so every HLAA-FL meeting and event is accessible to people with hearing loss.

Zeffy

Recommended

Zeffy charges HLAA-FL , so 100% of your gift reaches Floridians with hearing loss. One-time or monthly gifts by card or bank transfer.

How to give with $0 fees

Zeffy is free for HLAA-FL. To stay free, Zeffy asks each donor for an optional contribution to Zeffy, and it is set to 15% by default. You can change it to $0:

  1. Click the down arrow where fees are listed.
  2. Select "Other".
  3. Enter $0. That's it!

The optional contribution goes to Zeffy, not to HLAA-FL, and it is added on top of your gift. Setting it to $0 does not reduce your donation: 100% still reaches HLAA-FL either way.

Common questions

Is the Hearing Loss Association of Florida a registered charity?

Yes. The Hearing Loss Association of Florida, Inc. is a Florida nonprofit corporation, an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) public charity since 1998, and registered to solicit contributions with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services under registration number CH8988. Our EIN is 65-0783660.

Does my donation stay in Florida?

Yes. Gifts to HLAA-FL are used by the Florida state association for outreach, advocacy, education and chapter support in Florida. If you want to support HLAA's national work, donate through hearingloss.org. If you want to support one chapter, contact that chapter directly. All three are separate organizations.

Will I get a receipt?

Yes. Online gifts receive an email receipt immediately. Check donations receive a written acknowledgment by mail or email. Every acknowledgment includes our Florida registration number and states that no goods or services were provided, which is what the IRS requires for gifts of $250 or more.

Can I make a gift in memory or in honor of someone?

Yes. Add the person's name in the comment field when you give online, or include a note with your check. Tell us if you would like a family member notified, and include their address. We will send a card that mentions the gift but not the amount.

Can I donate hearing aids instead of money?

HLAA-FL does not collect hearing aids or cochlear implant processors. Several Florida nonprofits and national mail-in programs refurbish donated devices for people who cannot afford them. Our donate used hearing aids page lists verified programs, what each accepts, and whether they provide a tax receipt.
