Community Suggestion Box

Tell the HLAA-FL board what Floridians with hearing loss need. Ideas for meetings, topics, technology, advocacy, this website, or anything else. Every submission is read.

What the suggestion box is for

HLAA-FL exists to serve people with hearing loss in Florida, and the best way to know what you need is to ask. Use this page to suggest a meeting topic or speaker, a place that needs a hearing loop, a law or policy we should speak up about, a resource missing from this website, a chapter you would like to see started, or a problem you keep running into.

Suggestions go straight to the board. You do not need to be an HLAA member, and you can ask us not to contact you.

Ideas we would like to hear

  • Meetings and programs

Topics, speakers, meeting times, formats, or a virtual meeting for a part of Florida with no chapter.

  • Communication access

Theaters, churches, government offices, hospitals or venues that need a hearing loop, captions or better service.

  • Advocacy

Florida laws, agency rules or local decisions that affect people with hearing loss and where HLAA-FL should weigh in.

  • This website

A page you could not find, information that is out of date, or something that was hard to read or use.

  • Families and children

What parents of children with hearing loss in Florida need and are not getting.

  • Anything else

If it matters to you, it matters to us.

What happens to your suggestion

  1. Your suggestion is emailed to the HLAA-FL board.
  2. It is read and discussed at the next board meeting or by the committee that handles that area.
  3. If you said we may contact you, a board member follows up with questions or an update.
  4. Ideas that become programs, advocacy actions or website changes are shared in the newsletter.

If you are suggesting a link for our Resource Library

HLAA-FL is a volunteer nonprofit with no paid staff, and our Resource Library is the page Floridians trust when they are trying to pay for hearing aids. We review every suggested link against the same standard, whether it comes from a member or from the organization that owns the website.

What we look for

  • Primary sources first: the agency, program or nonprofit that actually runs the service, rather than a page that summarizes it.
  • Florida-specific value, or national information that applies cleanly to Floridians.
  • Free or nonprofit services, clear eligibility rules, and a real way to contact a person.
  • Information that is current, dated or maintained, and that we can verify ourselves.

What we do not list

  • Sites that earn affiliate commissions, referral fees or advertising revenue on hearing products, whether or not the relationship is disclosed.
  • Businesses that sell hearing aids, and pages whose main purpose is to generate leads or sales.
  • Individual audiologists, hearing aid specialists, ENT practices or clinics. HLAA-FL does not refer to individual providers.
  • Pages that repeat information our own guides already cover in more detail.
  • Anything that requires payment, registration or a personal email address to read the useful part.

We never accept payment for a listing, and a business cannot buy its way onto this page. If you want to support HLAA-FL as a business, sponsorship and advertising are the right route, and both carry a published disclaimer that they are not an endorsement. Corrections are always welcome: if something on our site is wrong or out of date for Florida, tell us and we will fix it.

Only your first name and an email address are required, and we will use the email only if you say we may contact you.

First name is fine.

May we contact you about this?

Common questions

Who reads the suggestions?

The HLAA-FL Board of Trustees. Suggestions arrive by email to the board and are reviewed at board meetings or passed to the committee responsible, such as advocacy, hearing loops or communications. Volunteers, not staff, read every one; HLAA-FL has no paid employees.

Do I have to give my name?

A first name is enough. We ask for an email address so we can follow up if you want us to, but you can choose 'No' on the contact question and we will not write back. We do not share your name or email with anyone outside the board.

Is this the right place to ask for help with my hearing loss?

If you need help now, use the contact page or call us so a person can respond quickly. The suggestion box is for ideas about what HLAA-FL should do. If you are not sure, send it here anyway and we will route it to the right place.

Can I suggest a website or resource for the Resource Library?

Yes, and we review every one. We list primary sources: the agency, program or nonprofit that actually runs the service. We do not list sites that earn affiliate commissions or advertising revenue on hearing products, businesses that sell hearing aids, or individual providers, and we never accept payment for a listing. Corrections are just as welcome as new links; if something on our site is wrong or out of date for Florida, tell us and we will fix it.

Can I suggest something for my local chapter?

Yes. Tell us which chapter and we will pass it along to the chapter leaders. If it is something the state association can help with, such as a speaker, hearing loop advice or start-up support, we will follow up with the chapter too.

Want to do more than suggest?

Volunteers turn good ideas into programs. Tell us what you would like to work on.
