HLAA Jacksonville Chapter
Meetings for adults with hearing loss and their families in the Jacksonville area.
This chapter is active. Meetings are free and open to anyone with hearing loss, family and friends. New visitors are always welcome.
What to expect at a meeting
HLAA meetings are built for people who have trouble hearing in groups. Chapters use captions, a hearing loop or an assistive listening system, and speakers use a microphone. You will not be asked to share unless you want to.
A typical meeting has a short welcome, a speaker or topic such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, captioned phones or Medicare, and time to talk with other members. Family members and friends are encouraged to come along.
If you need a specific accommodation, email the chapter or HLAA-FL before you come so it can be arranged.
Upcoming meetings and events
Times are Eastern. Confirm with the chapter before you travel, since plans can change.
No upcoming events are posted for the Jacksonville Chapter yet. Chapter leaders: submit an event.

Hearing help near this chapter
Chapter members are a good source of local knowledge: which audiologists take time with patients, which venues have a hearing loop, and where to find financial help for hearing aids in Florida.
Volunteer with this chapter
Chapters are run entirely by volunteers. Greeters, caption and tech helpers, newsletter writers, speakers and officers are always needed, and lived experience with hearing loss is the only qualification that matters.
Common questions
Do I have to be a member to attend the Jacksonville Chapter?
No. Chapter meetings are free and open to anyone with hearing loss, plus family and friends. HLAA membership is optional and supports the national organization, the Florida state association and every chapter. Come to a meeting first and decide later.
Is the Jacksonville Chapter meeting accessible?
HLAA chapters use captions, a hearing loop or an assistive listening system so people with hearing loss can follow along. Speakers use a microphone. If you need a specific accommodation such as CART captioning, email the chapter or HLAA-FL ahead of time so it can be arranged.
Can I bring my spouse or a friend?
Yes, and please do. Family and friends learn communication strategies at meetings, and many chapters have members who come as a couple. Hearing loss affects everyone in the household, so support for the whole family is part of what HLAA offers.
What if I cannot get to an in-person meeting?
Join a statewide HLAA-FL Zoom meeting or a national virtual chapter. Both use live captions and are open to anyone in Florida. Many members attend online between in-person meetings, and some chapters offer a hybrid option. Check the virtual meetings page for what is coming up.
